Raiders Friday Night Lights

Proserpine Whitsunday Rugby Union Club hosted an exhilarating night of rugby on May 24, 2024, during Game 7 of the 2024 Limitless Mackay Rugby Union competition. The Raiders faced off against their Bowen neighbours, offering a treat for local rugby enthusiasts.
The Raiders Ladies were the first to step onto the field, squaring off against the Bowen Jennies. The match ended in a thrilling 12-all draw, with Abriana Jones scoring two tries and Shirley Luke successfully converting one. Jadee Etchells and Abriana Jones made their debuts for the Raiders Women. Player points were awarded as follows: three to Jones, two to Luke, and one to Etchells.
Coach Sainsbury commented, “What a cracking match that highlights the growth of women’s rugby in the Mackay region.”
In the second game of the Eclipse Cup, the Raiders Men took on the Bowen Muddies, securing a decisive 38-6 victory. Luke Rae-Howard opened the scoring in the first half, followed by tries from Connor Spence and Jack Briskey. In the second half, Brayden Holloway, Brody Elson, and Jack Briskey (with his second try of the night) sealed the score. Connor Spence contributed four successful conversions.
The Raiders showcased a well-balanced team effort, with strong scrummaging, coordinated backline plays, hard runs, and busting tackles. Joel Hoffmann made notable contributions, and Jack Briskey delivered a stellar kick chase try. The team welcomed Chad Stocking back on the field and Clement Perotti on debut. Player points were awarded as follows: three to Brody Elson, two to Noah Burchett-Knott, and one to Brodie Stallman.
The Raiders expressed their appreciation to all who attended the games. The next home games are scheduled for Saturday, June 1, at the Whitsunday Sports Park, where they will face Slade Point RUC. The Women’s kick-off is at 2:30 p.m., followed by the Men’s game at 3:30 p.m.
